Scenario Solution

Did you get it? The ambiguity is very clever and incredbily misleading. You will kick yourself when you read on (if you haven't already by the picture). Regardless, lets compare your primed idea of the lateral thinking scenario against the "real" truth.

  1. A member of the paparazzi takes a picture ("shoots") the world-renowned celeb.
  2. The camera in question is supposed to be old (hence the reference to 1948 in the scenario) so he develops the shot by drowning "her" in water.
  3. Leaves photo on a peg to dry and remove excess water ("hanging her").

Annoying isn't it?

Alternate Puzzle Solutions

Aswell as the above, and as with move lateral thinking brain puzzles/teasers, there are other ways of looking at the scenario. You could for example take the easy way out and say it was all a dream (which can apply to many story-based puzzles). But, I have seen several other more unique ideas surrounding this (and its variants) solutions, including:

  • The teenager is an avid computer-game player and is playing the celebrity in a MMOFPS (Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter).
  • They are a skilled magic act, practicing for a new reality TV show, and the media "intrude".
  • The teenager is the celebrity's son, and she is test-driving a new board game, with Hasbro waiting for an approval of endorsement.
